Summary
Dermatology related conditions are a likely a daily presenting complaint within the general practice veterinary setting. Identification of lesion type and distribution pattern of pruritus will be discussed for the technician to create an internal differential list and prep for potential diagnostics to be done once the veterinarian has examined the patient with skin disease. Technicians are an important part of communicating what is noted on the patient visually or what client has seen, what is diagnosed by the doctor, relaying proper administration and side effects of the medications and acting a liaison between client and clinician on progress reports via phone or email. Becoming more comfortable about all these aspects of dermatology is essential into treatment success and patient comfort for these life-long conditions.
