Week 1: Heart and Lungs
Monitoring and treatment of cardiac and respiratory function is crucial to patient survival. This week we’ll look at the monitoring tools of the respiratory tract, including how to reduce the risk of pneumonia in the critical patient, postural and physical therapy for respiratory illness, and oxygen therapy among others. We’ll also include a section on sampling and interpretation of blood gases as well!
In addition, we’ll cover key aspects of monitoring the cardiovascular system, including blood pressure, blood lactate, as well as physical parameters of cardiovascular performance. In addition, we’ll provide you with a working guide to interpretation of abnormal heart rhythm (ECG analysis and interpretation), and a guide to identifying and treating various forms of cardiovascular shock in the critical patient.
