Summary

In this program participants will learn about the importance of recognizing proteinuria in chronic kidney disease and how to address it. Participants will have a quick review of the kidney’s normal anatomy and physiology and what leads to proteinuria. Participants will also briefly learn about concurrent conditions that may aggravate proteinuria and how to manage these in the context of renal diseases. This discussion will also include recent literature review as to how to best address this condition in both cats and dogs.

B.Sc, M.Sc, DVM

Dr Julie Lecavalier graduated magna cum laude from St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 after completing her clinical year at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. She then worked as a small animal partitioner in Montreal’s West Island for almost 6 years before enrolling in a specialized internship in internal medicine at the DMV Center in Montreal. She began her residency in small animal internal medicine at the DMV Center in July 2019. She was inducted into the Phi Zeta Veterinary Honour Society in 2010. Prior to obtaining her doctorate, she completed a Master’s Degree in Veterinary Sciences after obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Physiology from the University of Montreal. Dr Lecavalier shares her life with her dog Sophie and her cats Emrys, Rawell, Jelly Bean and Josephine (and her significant other!).
