Get the latest updates in Focus on Procedure Skills with this 3-day event for new Veterinarians.

What you'll learn

Day 1: 13th July - Focus on Local Anaesthesia in the ER

Emergency patients frequently present with significant pain to limbs, skin and body cavities as a result of trauma, inflammation or other tissue injury or illness. Join us as we take a look at the use of local anaesthesia techniques in the management of acute pain in the emergency patient – techniques that reduce patient risk, dramatically reduce harmful nociceptor stimulation, and that can facilitate safe and effective patient handling during stabilisation and treatment.

Day 2: 14th July - Focus on Procedures for the Gastrointestinal Tract

The gastrointestinal tract frequently requires intervention with surgery to manage a wide range of diseases – both primary gastrointestinal disease, and where intestinal disease or malnutrition can occur secondary to disease outside the GI tract. Join us as we detail feeding tube placement, rectal catheterization, and a selection of intra-abdominal surgical techniques, designed to help give the clinician greater confidence in these procedures.

Day 3: 15th July - Focus on Thoracic Procedures

The patient with respiratory or cardiac disease is often a fragile patient, with limited physiological reserves – making prompt diagnosis and management of their underlying condition extremely important. From low-stress imaging to emergency therapeutics, this lecture will detail a collection of short procedures, including lung ultrasound, thoracocentesis, and tracheal oxygen supplementation, to chest drain placement and emergency pericardiocentesis.
