Summary

This webinar will review sources and types of fiber in diets as well as the function of fiber, particularly as it relates to the gastrointestinal tract. The benefits of fiber on canine and feline health and the gastrointestinal microbiome will be discussed in detail. Specifically, the therapeutic role of fiber in gastrointestinal conditions such as chronic diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, and colitis/proctitis will be emphasized.

DVM, MS, DACVIM

Alyssa Sullivant is a faculty member in the small animal internal medicine department at Mississippi State University. Her clinical interests include gastroenterology, respiratory diseases, and student teaching. She earned her DVM from Mississippi State University and was in private practice for five years in Southaven, MS. She returned to MSU in 2012 to complete a specialty internship in internal medicine and oncology and a residency in small animal internal medicine. She achieved board certification in small animal internal medicine in 2016.
