In this program, participants will learn the importance of creating a culture of belonging and caring to enhance the veterinary healthcare experience for a diverse client base. We will review and discuss current data that identifies the pet owning population that is not currently seeking veterinary care. In addition, we will demonstrate how different social identities, implicit bias and cultural competency may influence the relationship between pet owners and veterinarians. Lastly, we will identify tangible actions that can be taken to create a culture of belonging and caring in a veterinary setting.
