Lecture 1 – Feline Chronic Kidney Disease: Progress and Pitfalls

Feline CKD continues to be one of the most common reasons for feline veterinary visits. We now have the ability to diagnose kidney disease earlier than ever before and know many factors that can influence the progression of kidney disease before there are obvious clinical signs of disease. This lecture will address some of the newer findings and how they may apply to the standard IRIS diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations.

He’s not fat, he’s fluffy’… is often the response given by an owner when we recommend a cat lose weight. Delisa will share her advice and experience on how to get clients to acknowledge their cat is overweight and commit to taking action. The webinar will also cover how to work out the correct amount to feed for weight loss, as well as troubleshooting when a cat does not lose weight as expected.

Sheri Ross

After graduating from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 1996, Dr. Ross completed a Small Animal Internship at the University of Minnesota. She remained at the University of Minnesota to complete an Internal Medicine Residency combined with a PhD in Nephrology/Urology. After serving as an Assistant Clinical Professor for 2-years she moved to the University of California Veterinary Medical Center in San Diego to complete a Fellowship in Renal Medicine/Hemodialysis. She is currently the coordinator of the Nephrology/Urology and Hemodialysis service at the UCVMC-SD. Dr. Ross has received awards for both teaching and research, has several referred scientific publications and has been invited to speak at national and international meetings. Her specific research interests include; influence of diet on the progression of chronic kidney disease, feline acute ureteral obstruction, non-surgical urolith management and applications of hemodialysis and hemoperfusion.

Delisa Appleton

Delisa graduated in Veterinary Science from the University of Queensland with honours in 1987 after which she worked in mixed and small animal veterinary practice for 7 years before commencing work in the nutrition industry. She then returned to the University of Queensland in 1999 to undertake research into nutritional aspects of obesity and diabetes in cats and was awarded a PhD in nutrition in 2004. Delisa is currently employed in the Veterinary Affairs Department of Hill’s Pet Nutrition as a Professional Consulting Veterinarian with more than 24 years’ experience in the field of small animal nutrition.

Hayley Langford

My name is Hayley Langford, I am a Territory Manager for Hill’s Pet Nutrition, assisting and educating vets and vet nurses in the lower half of the South Island, New Zealand. I am a passionate animal advocate, striving to improve and lengthen quality of life for all our fur babies. I started this journey qualifying as a Vet Nurse in 1999 and spending 15yrs in this role before transitioning into a new role within the animal health industry as a field rep. I am a pet parent to Frank (Burmese), Tussock (Border Terrier), Rowdy (English Staffy).
