Sheila Torres

Dr. Torres graduated from veterinary school in 1979 at the Federal University of Veterinary Medicine of Minas Gerais in Brazil. She obtained a Master degree at the same Institution in 1982 and was hired as Assistant Professor where she worked from 1982 through 1992. In 1990 Dr. Torres obtained a PhD and completed a residency in veterinary dermatology at the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine, USA. In 1993 she returned to the University of Minnesota as an Assistant Clinical Specialist and became board certified by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 1994. She is currently the Dermatology Section Chief and Full Professor with tenure at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Minnesota. Dr. Torres is also the vice chair for education and training at the same institution. She is the author or co-author of 48 peer-reviewed original articles. Dr. Torres is the co-author of a canine and feline dermatology drug handbook and has written 15 book chapters. Dr. Torres current areas of research interest are canine atopic dermatitis and alternatives to conventional antibiotic therapy.
